About

Hello World.

Man, what a rubbish way to start an about page. Anywho, to read about me as a person, you may be more successful if you visited my personal blog here. But, so then we can get along right from the front foot, my name's Gareth Aled John and I'm the Sub-Editor of the website based in Rhondda Cynon Taff called Wicid. I have been sub-editor for the website since mid February in 2010 (roughly). Since October time, I began to write a series called Dear World.

So, what exactly is this Dear World thing?

The idea I had for it was to be a sort of letter to the world, as in the planet itself, not its people. The initial plan of attack was to develop my writing skills for comedy, but as you can tell not all of them are funny. I don't try to be funny, I just try to write as good as I can.

I had the idea after watching two comedians at work, David Mitchell and Russell Howard.

After seeing some of David Mitchell's Soapbox, I wanted to do something like that. Though, I can say with some conviction that I will scare everyone off if I did these in podcast form (like what Mitchell does). So, I stayed with the good old text format. Nice.

To be fair, Russell Howard didn't really influence me in the way of starting this series, it was more of his outlook on life, and the way that he, along with Mitchell, goes on a rant that is both funny and, most of all, that makes sense.

All these articles (well, blog posts on here) have been seen first on Wicid, and if they editors deem it as good on ClicOnline, which is like Wicid, but aimed at the whole country of Wales, not just one county.

Dear World is not the only series on Wicid, or its sister sites. Though it is the only blog-like series on the websites (and, if I'm not mistaken, one of the only series' to appear on Clic, which is rather good to be fair). The other ones are stories, except for the Clicmas blog they did, where I wrote the third day's blog about how I'm confused with the fact that the Ghost of Christmases Yet To Come in Dickens' Christmas Carol is almost always portrayed as Death. Nice.

Kind of went off on a tangent then. Talking about the series on Wicid, the two series on there have their own Facebook group. To be honest, I thought that was a bit arrogant. Y'know, making a fan group on something you've only written for two months with not-so-good hit rate of viewers. This blog started as just a demo blog so then I could improve my HTML skills, but as that failed I thought I'd make use of it and put all the series up on here. That said, it's not a blog saying look at me, I write amazingly, I bet you're jealous now... No. It's just a way that others (who are not Clic members) can view and comment on them. I honestly think that my writing skills are non-existent, but I will allow you to be the judge of that.

And, sorry if this seems like bragging, but it does seem that I've been doing good with Wicid and Clic, as I won the first Best Overall Clic Contributor award in November 2010. Well, I say I won, I mean that I joint-won it, as they couldn't decide who should win between me and this Neath Port-Talbot girl who's done a lot also, so they decided that we both won. Lovely. Though, I'd like to note that I look hideous in all images in that article, so I hope that doesn't make you vomit slightly in your mouth.

I hope you like them, and feel free to comment on them, either with sharing your opinions or to let me know how you think my writing is.

I thank ye, world.

Gareth.
